It was on 7th September 2024 when a Requiem mass was held at St. Joseph Cathedral – Gulu for “Mego” Maria Juliana Alur, who passed on 30th August 2024 at Mulago Hospital – Kampala, a  mother of 10 children 6 girls and 4 boys including Father Thomas Oloya, SDB.

Baptized in the Catholic Church, her faith was firm, thus educating her children in a Christian way.  She also led a Catholic “Lay apostolate movement” for about ten years.

In his Homily, the Parish Priest of the Cathedral Parish of Gulu, Father Laurent Komokec said that this mother had time to take enough spiritual fuel through the sacraments of the Church: Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Reconciliations, Anointing oil, the Holy Matrimony. These sacraments helped her to make the long journey here on earth from 1931 to 2024 due to a strong cough, leaving 123 little descendants in three generations. He then invited the participants to follow the example of this mother.

In giving last respect to “Mego” many clergymen, religious men and women, friends and acquaintances to the family were present. In a particular way, all the Salesian communities of Uganda were represented including the Salesian family. Many emotions were visible to the naked eye on the faces of the participants.

While we accompanied mother Juliana to her last resting place, cultural dances accompanied the deceased as culture dictates (a person who dies at an advanced age brings joy to the family …)

May her soul Rest in the Peace of the Lord. Amen!

Brother Laurent sdb.
