On Saturday, June 7th, 2025, the Salesian Family in Rwanda comprising members from Gatenga, the Prenovices, Salesian Cooperators of Kicukiro, Kimihurura, Kabgayi, Rango, and ADMA embarked on a spiritual pilgrimage to the Marian Shrine of Kibeho. Departing from Kigali at 6:00 AM, the group arrived in Kibeho at 10:00 AM, where they were warmly welcomed by Fr. François of Kibeho.
The day began with a spiritual recollection led by Fr. Jean Claude Asifiwe sdb, centered on the role and message of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This time of reflection prepared the hearts for the celebration of the Holy Mass, which was presided over by Fr. Silvestre of Kibeho and concelebrated by 12 priests, including Fr. Frédéric (Vice Provincial – AGL), Fr. César of Kabgayi, Fr. Jonathan Ayako, Fr. Callixte, Fr. Gaudence, Fr. Jean Bosco of IFAK, and Fr. Asifiwe, among others.
After the Eucharistic celebration, participants were invited to personal prayer and confession, offering their intentions to the Blessed Virgin Mary in the serene atmosphere of the shrine.
In the afternoon, the pilgrimage continued with a visit to Nyarushishi Spiritual Center at 3:00 PM for the Divine Mercy prayer, bringing the day to a reflective and prayerful close.
A Brief History of Kibeho
Kibeho, located in the Southern Province of Rwanda, is the only Vatican-approved Marian apparition site in Africa. The Blessed Virgin Mary is said to have appeared there to three schoolgirls beginning in 1981, with messages calling for repentance, prayer, and conversion. The apparitions were later recognized by the Catholic Church, making Kibeho a renowned destination for Marian pilgrimage and prayer, especially significant for its message of peace and hope in the face of Rwanda’s turbulent history.
This pilgrimage not only deepened the faith of the Salesian Family in Rwanda but also strengthened their unity as they journey together under the guidance and protection of Our Lady of Kibeho.
