On Friday, 14th March 2025, the Salesians of Don Bosco ministering in the three communities of Uganda, namely BOMBO (which hosted the event), Kamuli, Namugongo, had the opportunity to gather together in Don Bosco Bombo for a their trimonthly recollection. It was animated by Fr Lazar Arasu on the theme “DON BOSCO OUR HOPE” inspired by the theme of the 2025 Strenna. The program started at 10:00 am with the opening prayer. Thereafter, Const. #21 “the Lord has given us Don Bosco as Father and Teacher” was read.

It was a great moment for all of us, first, to come together as sons of Don Bosco in today’s and future society and context of our Congregation. Second, coming together and sharing about the reason of “our being Salesians” is a great joy for us. Dear friends in Christ, Hope is the key that unlocks the door to a brighter future; and, as Don Bosco said: “Hope is the medicine that cures the wounds of the soul”. We may recall to mind how he himself suffered many trials especially in the beginning of our Society such as problems in the itinerant oratory, lack of funds, moments of loneliness and many others. After the inspiring conference, we had the moment of meditation and confessions followed by the Holy Mass. In his homily, Fr Arasu reminded us that “it is not only important what we know about Don Bosco; rather, it is much more important how we live as Don Bosco’s sons in our community life and ministry”. After the Holy Mass, the moment of fraternal ‘agapè’ concluded our day in joy.

Be brave and try to detach your heart from worldly things. Do your utmost to banish darkness from your mind and come to understand what true, selfless piety is. Through confession, endeavour to purify your heart of anything which may still taint it. Enliven your faith, which is essential to understand and achieve piety.” (Don Bosco)
