The Archdiocese of Kigali has gotten a new Parish named “Mary Help of the Christians” Parish of Kimihurura, which is the 33rd parish of the Archdiocese of Kigali. It was built by Christians with the support of the Salesians of Don Bosco. The creation of Kimihurura Parish has further supported the wish of Antoine Cardinal Kambanda, Archbishop of Kigali, which is to help Christians find a place of worship closer and play an active role in the Church. The Christians of the new Parish, which was officially opened on Saturday October 2nd 2021, express joy that they now have a nearby parish and will no longer have to travel long distances for Mass. At the same time he officially installed the first parish priest of the new parish in the person of Father Augustin-César Habanabakize, SDB. Bernard Mutaganda said: “The beautiful church you see here was built by the Salesians in collaboration with the Christians of Kimihurura Parish. We thank them because the place where we used to attend Mass had very few seats, and going to Ste Famille Parish was also difficult for us, and we thank our Archbishop who helped us.” His Eminence Antoine Cardinal Kambanda, who signed the document confirming the establishment of the new Parish of Kimihurura, thanked the Salesians of Don Bosco for their continued efforts in the spreading of the Gospel; “I am very grateful to the community of Salesians for their continued work, and for giving us the priests who helped us to make this project to build Kimihurura Parish a success,” he said.
