The Salesian communities in Uganda gathered on 19th November 2025 for their tri-monthly recollection, hosted at the Salesian community of Namugongo. The day of renewal and prayer was animated by Rev. Fr. Joseph Musagala, SDB under the theme “Following Don Bosco’s example, let us strengthen the central role of Christ in our lives.” who guided the confreres in reflecting on the centrality of Christ in their personal and community life.
The recollection brought together Salesians from the communities of Kamuli, Bombo, and Namugongo. Fr. Musagala invited the participants to pause from their daily routines and rediscover the importance of silence and listening to the Word of God. He emphasized that the recollection is precisely this sacred moment, a time set apart to encounter God and renew one’s vocation as it is stated by article 91 of our Constitutions.
A significant part of his reflection focused on our imitation of St. John Bosco, particularly in his mission as an educator and spiritual guide. Fr. Musagala highlighted Don Bosco’s profound spiritual accompaniment of the young, rooted in a life centered on Jesus Christ. He reminded the confreres that Don Bosco’s recommendations to young people to love the Eucharist, remain close to Christ, and nurture devotion to Mary Help of Christians must continue inspiring Salesians today.
The recollection was enriched with moments of prayer, Eucharistic adoration, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The day culminated in the Eucharistic celebration, during which Fr Musagala called upon every confrere to have a spiritual guide who accompanies and orients especially in moments when the mission is difficult or seems impossible. The day concluded with a joyful moment of a fraternal meal sharing, strengthening bonds of communion among the communities.
This tri-monthly recollection served as a meaningful reminder of the Salesian mission in Uganda: to live and serve with Christ at the center, following the example of their father and founder, Don Bosco.
