Gulu, Uganda – In a spirit of unity and fraternity, the Salesian communities of Atede and Palabek gathered together under the guidance of Fr. Arasu on 1st March,The occasion marked a significant moment of communal reflection and rejuvenation, as the communities came together to explore the Strenna presented by the Rector Major.
This year’s Strenna, “Anchored in Hope, Pilgrim with Young People,” served as the focal point for the gathering. Fr. Arasu expertly facilitated the presentation, drawing out the key themes and messages that underpin the Rector Major’s vision.
The presentation sparked a lively and engaging discussion, with many participants taking the opportunity to express themselves and ask questions. One of the most poignant contributions came from a participant from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), who shared a heartfelt testimony about the devastating impact of war on his community.
He spoke of the countless individuals who have lost hope due to the trauma and displacement caused by the conflict. Many have been forced to flee their homes, leaving behind everything they hold dear, and now live as refugees. His words served as a powerful reminder of the harsh realities faced by many young people around the world.
The sharing from the DRC participant resonated deeply with the gathering, highlighting the urgent need for hope and support in the face of adversity. As Salesians, the participants were reminded of their critical role in accompanying young people on their life journey, offering them a sense of hope and guidance.
In the words of the Rector Major, “We are pilgrims, journeying with the young, and we are anchored in hope.” The gathering served as a powerful affirmation of this message, as the Salesian communities of Gulu-Atede and Palabek recommitted themselves to being beacons of hope for young people, both locally and globally.
As the day drew to a close, the participants departed with renewed hope and enthusiasm, inspired by the knowledge that they are part of a global Salesian family united in their mission to serve the young.
