“Je suis vraiment convaincu que la simplicité et l’humilité doivent être notre carte de visite, avec que ce que j’ai appelé l’élément le plus constitutif de notre ADN salésien, ce qui nous constitue génétiquement comme Salésiens et comme Famille Salésienne : notre passion pastorale pour les jeunes, spécialement les plus pauvres” Père Ángel Fernández Artime, Recteur Majeur des Salésiens
MARY AND JOSEPH AT THE SERVICE OF BABY JESUS by Fr. Arasu, SDB
Mary said, “Behold the handmaid of the Lord, be it done to me as you have said.” And Joseph was instructed, “Take Mary as your wife.” From the time the holy couple of Nazareth confirmed God’s plan and activity in their life they allowed themselves to be drawn into the world of their son. Even before his birth their worlds have been turned upside down; God’s timetable became theirs, God’s direction became their path, God’s task became their way of life. As God came to live with them, to share their home, to grow up in their world, they too grew into their son’s world. Though there was no place for the Baby in the inn, soon found a warm home in Nazareth. The home was warm in every way. As Luke would write, “The child grew in stature, in wisdom and found favour with God and people,” the child received wholesome formation. Humanly speaking the formation that Mary and Joseph gave to their Wonder Child made him a worthy Saviour of the world. Their service did not end in the child’s growing time, but it continued throughout his ministry. The Mother becomes the first disciple and the first one to show him to out to the world, “Do whatever he tells you.” The mother was continued to walk with him was given back to us through John, “This is your mother.”
While living with joy our Salesian identity,
together with the young and our collaborators,
let us make of our mission an authentic project of holiness.
Dans la joie de vivre notre identité Salésienne,
avec nos jeunes et nos collaborateurs,
faisons de notre mission un projet authentique de sainteté.

When Saint John Bosco founded the Salesians in 1859 his mission was clear and simple: to be a friend to young people who were poor, abandoned or at risk, and in so doing to be a friend to Christ. Wherever the Salesians work, our mission is the same. You will find Salesians in schools of all kinds, youth clubs, in homes for homeless or abandoned children; working with street children; missionaries; chaplains in schools, colleges and universities and in parish work. Have you a heart big enough to join the Salesians in helping vulnerable young people? Are you a kind person who tries to understand and reach out to young people? Do you have a good sense of humour and enjoy having fun? Do you have a spark of faith that is telling you that you might be interested in serving young people as a Salesian brother or priest? Talk to us, we will welcome you, listen to your story and tell you ours! If you have an interest in finding out more, you are very welcome to contact : CLIC HERE
The history of our society can be traced to an obscure village in the north of Italy called The Becchi. Our history began, we may say, when little John Bosco dreamed a very strange dream at the age of 9. Or we may date the origins of our society to a surprise encounter that brought him face to face with a frightened street urchin in a church sacristy on 8 December 1841. Or perhaps to the little band of 17 young men to whom Don Bosco first gave the title ‘Salesians’ on 26 January, 1854. But these historical facts barely explain our international existence as a ‘family’ of nearly 402,500 members in the service of young people.
